WHAT IS A CARE MANAGER?  A care manager is a professional with a degree in the field of human service work-psychology, gerontology, nursing or social work.

Also known as Geriatric Care, Elder Care or Aging Care Managers, a Personal Care Manager represents a growing trend to help full time, employed family caregivers provide care for loved ones living close by or living far away. Care managers are also particularly useful in helping caregivers at home find the right services and cope with their burden.

 Lafayette residents Steve and Cary Rush never dreamed they’d be living in the same home with their parents again after they’d established their own life. But the couple now shares Steve’s childhood home with his mother, Martha Rush, and Cary’s mother, Dorothy Moore. For two years before Dorothy moved in, the Rush’s then-teenage son, Todd, also lived at home.

West Lafayette residents Lindy and Andi Heath decided early in their marriage to bring their parents into their home, should the need arise. That decision has led to 16 years of raising five children with Lindy’s mother, Florence Heath, as part of their household and everyday life.
These women are not alone. With better health care, people are living longer and more women are becoming unpaid caregivers ....
